Gregory Diaz Professional History and Accomplishments as Nevada County Clerk-Recorder.
Mr. Diaz is highly qualified, having experience in Clerk-Recorder and Election duties for 20 years. Mr. Diaz was appointed Assistant County Clerk-Recorder in 1990 and County Clerk-Recorder for the City and County of San Francisco in April 1995.
As the Clerk-Recorder for the City and County of San Francisco, Diaz initiated and supervised the implementation of digital processing for the County Clerk-Recorder's office by successfully merging technology with legal requirements in the management of official records. Diaz developed management structures for new or consolidated county departments and created training and development programs for the County Clerk-Recorder's office. He was a key member in creating and drafting new state legislation pertaining to Documentary Transfer Taxes, Records Integrity and Electronic Recording for the State of California. Diaz's accomplishments were recognized by his peers when he was elected President of the County Recorders' Assocation of California in 2003. Diaz has in-depth knowledge of the legal, institutional and logistical aspects of land ownership registration systems and in the management of the official public record.
In 1990, Diaz began working in San Francisco Elections. Diaz began as a floor supervisor overseeing the cleaning of ballots before ballots were inserted in the tally machine (getting rid of hanging chads). Diaz then worked in over twelve elections as a "rover" or field "troubleshooter" wherein Diaz became intimately aware of issues, concerns and problems that occur on Election Day. Diaz has brought his knowledge to Nevada County as Diaz has aministered five trouble-free elections in Nevada County.
Gregory and Katherine Diaz purchased property in Nevada County in 1997. In 2003, Diaz resigned from the City and County of San Francisco to become the Assistant Recorder in Placer County. This also gave Diaz and his family the opportunity to move full-time to Nevada County.
After 10 months in Placer County, Diaz opted to join Amcad, LLC, a nationwide imaging and document management solutions provider, as Vice-President and General Manager for their Western Regional Operations. As Vice-President, Diaz was involved with customization, testing, training and on-site implementation of land information systems and voting systems for 30 counties nationwide.
After four years in the private sector, Diaz applied for and was appointed to fill the vacant office of Nevada County Clerk-Recorder. Diaz has managed to restore public confidence in an office that was poorly managed for several years.
Since 1990, Diaz has been an active member of all th relevant national, state and local organizations including NACRA (National Association of County Recorders, Election Officials and Clerks), PRIA (Property Records Industry Association) and CRAC (County Recorders Association of California) to ensure taxpayers are continually receiving state-of-the-art solutions that incorporate legislative requirements, technology enhancements and national trends.

Outside of Police and Fire, the most important service goverment can provide to its citizens are its roles as the Custodian of Vital and Official Reocrds an ensuring the integrity of Elections. Diaz has been a property owner in Nevada County since 1997 and resides
in Grass Valley with his wife Katherine. He has two daughters: Angela,
a 2007 graduate of the University of California at Berkeley; and
Natalie a 2009 graduate of Williams College in Massachusetts. Diaz is a
graduate of Swarthmore College, holding a degree in history and a minor
in education. Katherine works the family alpaca ranch. Greg and
Katherine have a herd of 47 alpacas they raise for sale, fiber, and
breeding.
